Sarracenia purpurea

S. purpurea has
the widest distribution, by far, of all pitcher plants, from the
southeastern coastal plain to the Great Lakes region of the U.S., all the way
northward to a large part of the southeastern Canada. In this species, the
lid does not reflect over the pitcher opening. This often results
in rainwater filling the pitcher, creating a deadly pool of the
